Cooked, The Best Recipes App

I am a cook, not a chef. A cook needs a recipe, all the ingredients, and a good clean run at it in the kitchen without anyone giving advice. A chef can fling open a cupboard, scan what's available, and announce what they will be creating for dinner.

I'm a cook, not a chef.

Over the years I have collected recipes in many formats, scraps of paper, books, electronic notes, links to websites, and even YouTube videos. Everywhere and anywhere - not my favourite way to keep info.

During lockdown, or maybe just after, I stumbled upon* Cooked.wiki

At the time it was a hobby site from Eduardo Gonçalves, a software engineer, entrepreneur, and teacher from Lisbon. I believe it was Eduardo's attempt to learn how to code with AI and boy was it useful! It's still run by Eduardo but it's now a fully fledged website with excellent mobile apps AND it's ad-free and hosted in Europe which I adore, of course.

Like a million other recipe sites/apps it organises, displays, and even reads your recipes as you would expect. It allows you to keep them private or share them with other Cooked users, up to you. It also creates a 'shop aisle' based shopping list based on the recipes you select, very handy.

Cooked's secret sauce (and where the "AI" comes in most) is how you can get your recipes into it, this is genius.
  1. Type it in (meh)
  2. Point it at a web page
  3. Upload a photo, a Word doc, or a PDF
  4. Point it at a YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram video
  5. Explain your recipe with voice
Choose, do, and, after some AI work by Cooked, you end up with a perfectly formatted recipe to save and use. Brilliant!

Let's work through one that I don't have in my Cooked yet.
Um, let's get the perfect English breakfast, LOL

1: Find the recipe somewhere on the Internet

There's some nice links there:
However on review they're well formatted recipe pages and I want to test the Cooked AI a bit more so let's use: https://iamafoodblog.com/a-breakdown-of-the-full-english-breakfast/

2: Pop your chosen web page address into Cooked

Ya can go to Cooked and use the input box BUT how's this, just edit the recipe page address and add cooked.wiki/ to the front, hit enter and boom!

3: Voila!

After a bit of AI wheels whirring you get a draft recipe for you to check over and then save - of course to save it you'll need to get an account to save it into, free for all the basics, bloody cheap for all functionality - this is mine, by all means connect with me: https://cooked.wiki/user/miramarmike

Wanna see what the breakfast recipe looks like: https://cooked.wiki/saved/eea89296-8288-4d24-8609-a1f3f1912475

As you can see with this screenshot, when you tap on a step it highlights the ingredients to use.

What else, you can change from metric to weird imperial measurements, add ingredients to your shopping list, listen to the recipe, create a PDF, and  ... and probably way more.

And here's the PDF link if you wanna see what Cooked creates: https://drive.proton.me/urls/PYD8J241X0#4yijnkOdtgko
(it's yours, share photos of your English breakfast!)

* StumbleUpon, hands up who remembers that, I loved it, we all need some serendipity in our lives
