I don't remember where I heard about the South Wales crime comedy-drama Death Valley, but we are both so happy I did and downloaded it. Series one was left sitting on the hard drive for, um, a while, waiting for the right moment and wouldn't you know it, our arrival to splotchy Internet and no TV reception in Papunya was that moment.

Six episodes are not enough!

We have loved the actual crimes, yes it is fun to try and work it out a la Midsomer Murders and the rest. The best thing is that the murder happens within the first minute or so, no hanging around and you're off and running with a gaggle of characters to weed out.

Then there's the glorious partnership of DS Janie Mallowan (Gwyneth Keyworth) and John Chapel (Timothy Spall), both quirky and fun that make ya giggle but also somehow feel very real and grounded. The supporting cast is also beautifully written and acted, it's a delight. All delivered with the glorious South Walian sing-song accent and a smattering of the Welsh language.

I can't recommend it enough, you'll watch the first episode and then want to binge watch the rest, it's that good.

So, series two, is on its way and we here in the middle of Australia can't wait! Maybe by then we'll have our Internet sorted and can stream it as soon as it comes out 🤞

  1. Yes. Very enjoyable. More of a comedy-mystery than a cozy-mystery.
