All The Family Huddled Around A Glowing Laptop

The times when the kids were growing up it was a tradition to have the laptop on and the Northern Hemisphere family watch as the presents are open. A lot has changed since this photo in 2017, the kids are young adults, my Dad is in a home, the Swedish side aren't allowed to travel to Wales due to COVID, and I won't be around the kids this Christmas Day. It's not so much the change, the kids were always gonna move on and with the divorce new rituals have been created. It's more that it's happened in 3 years, 2017 seems both a long long way away (as does January, remember then?), and yet close enough to touch. Whatever your routines are be prepared to change them, but keep the rituals .

Miramar Town Centre Upgrade - Newsletter 7, 7 June 2013

This came in yesterday, I think Monday is the new Friday for Kev :)

Just to make it very clear, what follows is NOT WRITTEN BY ME. I am NOT the project manager of the Miramar Town Centre Upgrade, that role is taken up by Kevin Murphy (kevin.murphy@wcc.govt.nz).

If you want to get the official weekly update email (which is copy-pasted below), and I heartily recommend it, then 'subscribe' by sending an email to miramar@wcc.govt.nz

What happened last week
The bulk of the basecourse in the new car park has been laid ready to receive the new concrete surface. Work has also started on laying basecourse along the Miramar Avenue and Park Road edges so we can pour the concrete base on which the new paved surface will be laid.

The installation of boxing and reinforcing steel for the concrete pedestrian platform at the car park entrance has started.

At the Tram Shelter, work on stabilising the footings in preparation for a new concrete floor slab has been completed

What’s happening this week
It’s all about finishing the basecourse preparation, boxing and steel reinforcement and then pouring lots of concrete, weather permitting. This will start along the Miramar Avenue and Park Road edges first.

The concrete trucks will access the site via the gated entrance to avoid causing traffic disruption on Miramar Avenue (this explains why the final stretch of kerb and channel on the north side of the new car park has not yet been formed). However, this work will mean the footpath will temporarily have to be diverted on to the road while the concrete is poured and then allowed to cure. We ask people to take care when walking along the Miramar Avenue and Park Road edges. Please watch out for the diversion signs and follow any verbal directions from site personnel.

The new floor slab for the Tram Shelter will also be poured.

Other news
As indicated last week, we are finalising the contract for the installation of the new public toilet on the corner of Park Road and Miramar Avenue. We intend that this work will start on Monday 24 June. I will let you know nearer the time what this will involve.
