Spam - Its Not Been So Good Recently Until "FROM CAPT. MICHAEL JAMES"

It's been a goodly number of months since fine spam has made it into my InBox.
We pine for the days of Ms. Tracey Williams, of being referred to as "Chosen One" or being truly blessed.
Even the offers galore have never hit the heady heights of Marie D'Esple and P.R. Nelchael.

The following is only OK but really the shout out needs to be, "Come on spammers of the world get more creative. You need to get through the awesome GMail spam filter and then to make me smile!"

Dear Friend,

With a very desperate need for assistance, i have summoned up courage to contact you. I am presently in Iraq with the USA marine platoon; i found your contact particulars in an address journal. I am seeking your assistance to evacuate the sum of $500,000.00 (Five hundred thousand dollars) to you, as far as i can be assured that it will be safe in your care until I complete my service here.This is no stolen money and there are no dangers involved.

SOURCE OF MONEY:
Some money in various currencies was discovered concealed in barrels with piles of weapons and ammunitions at a location near one of Saddam's old palaces during a rescue operation and it was agreed by all party present that the money be shared amongst us, this was quite an illegal thing to do but i tell you what?

No compensation can make up for the risks we have taken with our lives in this hell hole.

The above figure was given to me as my share and to conceal this kind of money became a problem for me, so with the help of a German contact working here and his office enjoys some immunity. I was able to get the package out to a safe location entirely out of trouble spot. He does not know the real contents of the package and believes that it belongs to an Asian American who died in an air aid and before giving up,trusted me to hand over the package to his family.There is a secured way of getting the package out to a safer country for you to pick up and i will discuss this with you, when i am sure that you are willing to assist me. One passionate appeal, i will make to you is not to discuss this matter with a third party. Should you have reasons to reject this offer, please destroy this mail as any leakage of this information will be too bad for us.

I do not know for how long we will remain here but hopefully and before the year runs out. I have survived two suicide bomb attacks, by the special grace of God this and other reasons i will mention later has prompted me to reach out for help.

The Difference Between One Million And One Billion

It's feels like a billion is just a bit bigger than a million. Obviously it's bigger but it fits on the same scale as a million, surely. It doesn't. A billion is so so so much bigger than a million. I've trawled the internet finding graphics and videos that show the VAST difference between one million and one billion. Oh, and just to finish with a different misconception about space starting with the classic opening line from the great Douglas Adams and The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy : “Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.”

[Updated] Pubs of 2024 Monmouth

"Back in the day", yada yada yada, yes we all know there were more pubs than people, there was a pub every two houses, the largest number of pubs per square mile than anywhere in the known universe, there was a pub named after each and every one of us, and yet, YET we only ever went to same one every time. Monmouth has changed, it now only has 10 pubs.  "Ten! Ten? It used to be ten pubs just in the top of town. There were ten pubs I'd walk past to get to my local." Yes, yes ... times change, we now have 10 pubs in Monmouth . Oh, and the Mayhill but that seems to be more a ghost pub, it can be seen but only in the dark and no-one will believe if you say you went in. Monmouth, a town in Wales (YES, it is in Wales ), a town that has a population of around 10,317 (as at 2021). A town who's 1980's population was, well, I don't know, despite a century of censuses being taken, it's impossible to find (1991: 8,206 | 2001: 8,877 | 2011: 10,508 | 2021: 1
