I learnt a lot from my ex-ex-wife, how could I not being near someone that's clever, insightful, hard working, and has so much empathy it falls out of her in spades.

Two phrases I have from her are, "out on the skinny branches", and this most excellent challenge to those that view working as a chore.
There is no law that says work has to be hard, boring, or even "work"
This is not to say that work should be a barrel of laughs every single moment, it could be, but nothing is that good.

It does say that working should not be a constant day-in day-out series of moments that drive you mad. Just like working probably can't be perfect every moment it can't be shite every moment.

Some managers operate under the misapprehension that if someone isn't working every second of every day then they're somehow "slacking". These people are ineffective managers that need training or moving on.

Staff though have a responsibility to make sure they don't burn themselves out by taking on the "work must be hard" attitude, there is no law that says it has to be so why believe it.

Focus on outcomes, have fun on the way, and it'll be just fine.
