As I walked through the house I saw my housemate's son was watching episode 4 of Ed Pratt's Source to Sea down the River Thames WITHOUT Leaving it, yay the new one is out!
I’m attempting to travel from the source to the sea down the River Thames. That’s 210 miles of wading, swimming and kayaking along Britain’s busiest waterway. And to make things harder I’m doing the whole thing alone and self-supported.
It's a delightful series as Ed, a convivial chap who has circumnavigated the globe on a unicycle, challenges himself to travel the entire length of the River Thames whilst staying in the water at all times. He allows himself to get out, camp up and sometimes pop into a pub etc, but enters the river at the same spot he left it.
Like a lot of lockdown videos or even Gone Fishing with Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer, there's something very English-calm about it, it's extremely engaging, very endearing and I absolutely look forward to each episode as they come out.
You can become a member via his YouTube channel (NZ$2.99/month) or on Patreon (NZ$4/month) and get to see the videos early, which of course helps Ed and his chosen causes, but I'm just loving the gentle regularity of it all and feel no need to binge - calm like Ed. He's also getting a massive audience on TikTok and Instagram if those are your channels of choice.
As I write this at the start of February 2025 the fourth episode is out, I'm sure there will be more when you come to read it, subscribe and/or check out his playlist.
