Smellie & Co

Smellie's Building is a heritage-listed warehouse in Brisbane built in 1895. The name makes me smile in a very silly way 👍

I am attracted to reflected lights on water like a moth to reflected lights on water, I just love them. Story Bridge, Brisbane (Australia)

Tall, Proud, Australian, and Colourful

Along the Brisbane River in the city there are some glorious buildings both sparkling new and stone old which light up at dusk and during the night with an almost a party energy. Expect a few more over the coming days.

Ups and Downs Of Life

The ups and downs of life all even out in the long run. Of course this can be hard to remember when hurtling downwards, but it's equally as difficult to recall when heading up to the sky

Mary Shelley, What A Life

I had no idea that Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein when she was only 20. And that seemed like the middle of her life as there was much before and so so much after. How do I know this, from the wonderful BBC podcast  You're Dead To Me  hosted by Greg Jenner ( @greg_jenner ) Richard Rothwell's portrait of Mary Shelley as shown at the Royal Academy in 1840

My Nan

Gladys, my Nan, would be quietly proud, a little faux-embarrassed, and definitely pink around the cheeks if she knew I was publishing her photo on #InternationalWomensDay Of course she would marvel at the ability to do any of this, have a digital photo that I can blur the background on suggestion of a million other computers connected by light cables from all over the planet. She'd marvel, but not be overwhelmed. As with the vast majority of the women who've touched my life over the years it is their ability to weather the changes that has always amazed me. These changes can come from bad places, amazing times, or simply the ever accelerating pace of change on this planet. They take change, absorb it, and get on with life. In absorbing it something is both added and lost. A cost is always paid. And they always pay up. Women eh, fucking astounding, and so so much stronger than the majority of men I know, myself included at the top of that pile.
