Part one of my Lions 2005 round-up
I think the Lions mid-weekers fared well, performed above average and were fun to watch. I salute them.
The Lions test team was crap.
The difference was the coaching staff. They brought too many players, had decided on a team before they arrived and concentrated too much energy on non-rugby events. They were generally awful. The Welsh players tried their best but to no avail.
The NZ provincial sides played with a lot of heart and power but were generally buggered by the 2nd half. It was a shame some of the All Blacks weren't playing but I understand the reasons.
The All Blacks were outstanding and played with greater skill, planning and rugby intelligence all at higher speed.
